Hi Anna. 120 films can be bought from several online shops depending on where you are. I would google 120 film. In US B&H Photo Video has a good selection. Good luck!

I know this question is super late, but would you mind telling me where you got the film for that camera? We own one and would look to clean it up and use it, but we weren’t able to find it anywhere.

Hello, Toby -- Your 150mm lens will be the equivalent of a 66mm lens on 35mm, with a 32 degree angle of coverage. The nice thing about using 6x9 is that the aspect ratio (the ratio of the short and long sides of the frame) is 2:3, exactly the same as 35mm. and visualizing the final image when switching formats is therefore pretty easy.
And, incidentally, if you're still considering the purchase of a VH, I highly recommend it! I have one, and it sees a lot of use.
All the best -- Bud

I am sorry Toby I cannot answer your question. But maybe you can find an online resource. Check this one for instance: https://photographylife.com/sensor-size-perspective-and-depth-of-field

I’m currently considering getting a Horseman VH with a 6 X 9 back. I like the way it folds up very neatly. At the moment I’m using an antique: it’s a Zeiss Ideal 225 circa 1926, a 9 X 12cm plate camera with a universal 6 X 9 back attached. The lens is a 150mm f4.5 Tessar. I’ve not been able to calculate the actual lens focal length now that the film size is reduced (it’s a bit like the digital issue where one has to multiply the focal length by 1.5 to take into account the smaller size sensor.

Does anyone have an idea just what a 150mm lens for 9 X 12 gives when the film is reduced to 6 X 9 ?

Any replies gratefully received. Toby Madrigal.

Hi Julian. Thanks for visiting my site! I am not sure about VH-R focusing but I would assume that if you have a ground glass back for it then it should work for focusing without rangefinder. But you should check with the seller to be sure. Regarding the prism viewfinder yes it shows you the corrected view. I don't use it so often but I should because it eliminates the need for dark cloth and loupe, and of course gives you a corrected image.

I would also consider buying a lightweight 4x5. There are a lot of 120 backs for 4x5 cameras. Some 4x5s are lighter than a VH-R and maybe even cheaper (Intrepid). There are two reasons I write this. First, your selection of lenses will be much larger. Second, you can buy and use panorama 120 backs, something you cannot on a VH. Good luck!

I have similar thoughts. I currently use a Bronica GS-1 (6x7 and 645 roll film backs, a 6x6 is available but I don't own one) and I have an Olympus OM1n 35mm and develop my own B&W film (which is 95% of what I shoot). The previous owner of the Bronica didn't trust the meter and the Olympus meter is faulty so I've learned to use hand-held meters, a spot meter and an incident meter. Therefore, like you said, my workflow with developing and scanning film wouldn't change if I bought a VH and I have a sturdy tripod, geared 3-way head and a large camera backpack that would be suitable for this camera.

I have a couple of questions though. Most of the ones on eBay are the VH-R, can it be focused on the backscreen without using the rangefinder? 4x5 view cameras show the scene on the ground glass reversed top-bottom and left-right. The Bronica's waist level viewfinder shows the scene flipped left-right but not top-bottom but using the prism viewfinder, it is corrected. Does your angled viewfinder correct the image?

Hi Cole. I installed thin seals along the upper and lower rails. These rails did not have seals on my camera and I am not sure if they originally had seals. But my copy had light leaks at the bottom and top of the frame and these disappeared after I added the seals. Hope this helps!

Hi, I've been trying to diagnose a light leak problem on my P as well. Did you just replace the two tiny seals that the P comes with or did you install additional seals somewhere else? If you have the ability to take a picture of it that would be greatly appreciated! Cheers!
